In 2007, Governor Culver and the Iowa State Legislature created the Office of Energy Independence and the Iowa Power Fund to accelerate Iowa’s leadership in energy for the 21st Century.

We are at a critical time in our history. Never has the need for change been so clear in order to protect our environment and natural resources, to protect our lifestyle through energy security, and to develop our economy with industries that not only promote the environment and security, but also bring dependable jobs and good salaries to Iowa.

The position of Director of the Office of Energy Independence is a very exciting one. Our skilled labor force, natural resources, and innovation place Iowa in the right place at the right time. Working together we can capture the moment and claim Iowa’s place leading the 21st century energy economy.
